HCLTR’s BookStore featuring: OUR PUBLICATION!!

Published in late 2023, this book documents the process that was used by a group of local researchers in order to determine the history mystery of the accurate age and ownership of the beloved log house on Main Street in Ellicott City, MD that was donated by a local family and restored by preservationists in the early 1980s. Using archival documents, obscure maps and phone interviews they discovered the factual pre–Civil War Black history that had been overshadowed for decades by an inaccurate “European settler” narrative. This book restores the accurate history of the log house to the community along with the oldest Black church of the county, helping to balance the history narrative of Howard County, MD.

You can purchase the book directly through us (we get more $ that way) or through Barnes and Noble for those more comfortable doing so. On their website, just put in “Early Ellicott City Black” and you’ll pull us up!
